1997 – 2006 Jeep Wrangler TJ is what I prefer. Then a 2003 – 2006 TJ Rubicon is the best of the TJs.. Just make sure that you get one with a 4.0 I-6 motor.
First off let me tell you I am a Jeep owner and a big fan of them but with that said I will tell you to stay away from them unless you only plan to use it as an off-road toy. Why you ask? They get at best 13 to 15 mpg, they road walk, they don’t like wind, they are very loud, they are cold in the winter and hot in the summer, and the axles in them suck. If you are willing to overlook all that I can tell you that they have gotten better with each year model. The 97 through 2006 Models (TJ) is probably the best bang for the buck as the prices have really come down since the release of the JK. I say if you want go to a book store and get a copy of JP magazine and read up on them and then decide for yourself
It depends on what you want to spend.
the 87-95 wrangler (YJ) have leaf springs amd are known to ride rougher. they are the cheapest though
the 97-06 wrangler (TJ) has changed to a coil spring suspension and rides much better. In 03-06 they changed the interior to a more modern style.
07-current wrangler (JK) rides the best. but is the most expensive.
I personally own a 2003 wrangler rubicon with 35×12.50 cooper stt’s and a 4″ lift. love the way it rides because of what i have out onto it.
so personally i am a TJ guy. And out of everyone of these, do not get a 4cyl!
