I love my Jeep Grand Cherokee, 160 thousand miles and still runs strong, off road and on. Both my daughters own Jeep Grand Cherokees, 220,000 miles and 140,000 miles. I like the power of my V8, my girls both chose a straight 6. Just find one that has been taken care of.

if you Open the hood, look on the passenger side fender. If there is a computer mounted on the fender (silver box, with a bunch of wires coming out of it, white sticker attatched....
You have the 45RFE.
If this computer (Transmission Control Module) is absent, you have the 42RLE.
and AT = automatic and MT= Manual

Model changed significantly in 2005. 2005 models have lots of bugs, 2006 does also but to a lesser extent. The previous generation went from 1999 to 2004 and used the bullet proof I6 4.0l in the Laredo. The newer gen uses the 3.7l V6. The newer generation has a bunch of refinements that make it less truck like. We have had one of each; still have the '06. Minor issues with each, but overall not bad.

Depends on the actual condition of the vehicle you're looking at, obviously.

Not all of them are in the exact same condition.

You'll find some that are in great shape, some that aren't.

So it's pointless to ask us to generalize ALL of them as one way or another.

Look under the hood of your car for a sticker with info on it. Or maybe on engine itself, or door jamb

And so it was written...
