Both my daughters own Jeep Grand Cherokees, 220,000 miles and 140,000 miles. I like the power of my V8, my girls both chose a straight 6. Just find one that has been taken care of. If there is a computer mounted on the fender (silver box, with a bunch of wires coming out of it, white sticker attatched.... You have the 45RFE. If this computer (Transmission Control Module) is absent, you have the 42RLE. and AT = automatic and MT= Manual if you Open the hood, look on the passenger side fender. The previous generation went from 1999 to 2004 and used the bullet proof I6 4.0l in the Laredo. The newer gen uses the 3.7l V6. The newer generation has a bunch of refinements that make it less truck like. We have had one of each; still have the '06.
